For our target stars the objective is to get a single observation each night by *someone*. We have active observers in North America and Europe but clouds and smoke dictate that we spread our effort more widely. The photometer would be an Optec SSP-3. These devices are easy to use - they insert into the telescope drawtube just like an eyepiece. If you have a telescope otherwise used for casual observing the photometer can be swapped in or out in seconds. An observation of a single star along with an extinction measurement can be completed in 25 minutes once the operator becomes proficient. The prime target right now is Deneb but in the north we also collect data on V566 Cas and sigma Cyg. One important point: the observer will want a permanently or semi-permanently installed telescope so there will be no need to set-up/tear-down each night. I attach a copy of the AAVSO PEP guide. The first chapter will give you an idea of how observing works.
